Nursing Employment Data

Your response in this section of the renewal form should reflect your current status at the actual site where you are currently working. If you work in more than one location, please choose the site  where you worked the most hours as your primary place of work. If you worked similar hours at multiple locations, please select the site where you’ve worked the longest.

Practising without a valid registration is illegal and will result in the following:

  • practice hours worked without an active license will not be counted;
  • you will not have professional liability protection (CNPS) for any hours worked without an active license;
  • you could face possible discipline;
  • you will be charged an additional late fee of $57.50 and the potential of additional fees starting with an unauthorized practice fee of $287.50.

Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS): More than liability protection

Registering for the Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS) professional liability protection and core services is a requirement for registration with NANB.

The CNPS is a not-for-profit society that offers legal advice, risk-management services, legal assistance and professional liability protection related to nursing practice to over 150,000 eligible nurses across all Canadian provinces and territories. A non-profit legal support system created by nurses for nurses, the CNPS is specifically tailored to meet the professional liability protection needs of nurses in all professional nursing roles.

Click here to for more information about CNPS

While the CNPS was created to offer eligible Canadian nurses a source of protection in the event of a legal proceeding, it believes that prevention is key. As part of CNPS professional liability protection and core services, you gain access to educational webinars and publications, and you can also take advantage of CNPS legal services, which enable you to speak with a lawyer at any time, at no additional cost.

Should you have any specific legal questions related to your nursing practice, you may contact the CNPS directly at 1-800-267-3390 or via email

Refunds

No refunds will be issued for any fees paid to NANB.

The Following May Apply To You

Leave of Absence

If you are on an extended leave (maternity leave, sick leave, long term disability, etc.)  and do not expect to practise after November 30, you may select a non-practising membership, and later reinstate your practising membership. If you are unsure about which membership type is best for you, please contact registration services. Any non-practising fees paid to NANB will be applied toward your registration fees if you reinstate during the same registration year.

Employer Payroll Deduction Deadline – November 15th

If you are on payroll deduction or preauthorized debit, you must renew by November 15. After November 15,  your registration fees will be returned to your employer, who will return them to you. After November 15, any preauthorized debit payments will be returned to you once the renewal period is closed.

As such, if you renew after November 15, you must pay your fee online using your debit or credit card.

Resignation / Retirement

If you decide not to renew your registration, you should resign or retire your membership. This keeps your record in good standing and eliminates any late fees should you reinstate your membership at a later date.

Name Change

Be sure to submit a ‘profile update’ to support your name change. If  you change your address, telephone number or e-mail address at any time during the year, please also submit a profile update as appropriate.

Working in Another Province/Country

If you must claim any hours worked outside New Brunswick to meet NANB’s renewal criteria, you must have your regulatory body send a verification of registration directly to NANB and have your employer send a verification of your hours of practice directly to NANB as soon as possible. Hours not verified by the employer cannot be added to your file.
