NANB Recognizes 100 Years with Time Capsule Ceremony
FREDERICTON, Wednesday May 11th, 2016 – Today at 2:00pm, the
Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB) will recognize the
Centennial year with a Time Capsule and Commemorative Tree
Planting Ceremony during National Nursing Week at the NANB
headquarters in Fredericton (corner of Regent St. and Brunswick St.).
All registered nurses and nurse practitioners, representing 9,000 health
professionals in the province, were invited to participate by donating
personal nursing items of significance. Brenda Kinney, President and
Karen Frenette, President-elect will turn the soil on the past 100 years
marking contributions from nurses for future generations to reveal.
“Celebrating a centennial is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity,” says
Brenda Kinney, President of NANB. “I could not be more proud to be a
registered nurse, privileged to represent the Association as President,
and even more importantly to represent such an impactful and
evolutionary history marked by pioneers who championed standardized
and regulated nursing care to protect the public we care for each and
every day.”
Unknown to many, New Brunswick nurses created and authored the
Nurses Act, were first in the country to introduce public representation
on the Association’s Board of Directors, launched the extra-mural program, and have lead national and international nursing organizations…to name just a few. The Time Capsule and Commemorative Tree Planting Ceremony will enable nurses to leave their personal stamp on a remarkably proud history.
NANB Board and staff would welcome members of the media to join us
for this event with a pre-viewing of the capsule contents at 1:30pm, the
official photo at 2:00pm and or a brief reception to follow, providing an
opportunity to share nursing’s history and highlight centennial activities
