Regulating Nursing in the Public Interest

Roland Losier to Serve a Second Mandate with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick.

FREDERICTON, October 13, 2011 – Roland Losier (Moncton) was re-appointed to serve a second
two-year mandate by the Minister of Health as Public Director with the Nurses Association of New
Brunswick (NANB), which represents 8,900 registered nurses in the province. Public director’s
currently represent 1/3 of the twelve-member Board of Directors.

“The role of the public member is essential for the profession to regulate RNs in the public’s
interest,” says France Marquis, President of NANB. “Mr. Losier will continue to advocate on behalf
of New Brunswickers as the health care system faces significant challenges including access to
care and the protection of the publicly funded, not-for-profit health care system in today’s changing
economic, political and social climate.”

A former educator, Mr. Losier worked in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia school systems as a
principal, student councillor, director of student services and teacher. Mr. Losier received a
Bachelor of Teaching, Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s in Education from the Université de
Moncton. Active in community affairs, Mr. Losier has served on the Board of Directors for Caisse
Populaire in Tracadie and participates in local choirs, currently ‘Les voix d’Acadie’.

The Board of Director’s are meeting today through Friday October 14th at NANB headquarters in
Fredericton.
