April 2, 2025   ▪   NANB News & Announcements

FREDERICTON April 2, 2025 - The Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB), regulatory body representing over 11,000 registered nurses and nurse practitioners, is pleased to announce Kate Sheppard, as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Registrar. Ms. Sheppard has led the organization as interim CEO and Registrar for the past year and was officially appointed by the Board of Directors effective immediately.

“We are thrilled Kate has accepted the role of CEO and Registrar continuing to lead the regulatory body through what is the largest undertaking in NANB’s history,” says Nathan Wickett, President of the Board of Directors. “Introducing a new nursing act, replacing the current Nurses Act that has not seen updates in over 40 years, transitioning the organization to a single-mandate regulatory body with a sole purpose for public protection, while spearheading a new strategic plan outlining significant projects for the organization to advance over the next few years, it is obvious her ambition and commitment to regulatory excellence will lead NANB strongly into the future.”

Ms. Sheppard has had an extensive nursing career over 25 years. Her career began in paediatrics at the Dr Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital (DECRH), continuing as an educator at the University of New Brunswick and finally as a Nurse Manager and Acting Administrative Director at (DECRH) prior to joining NANB in the Fall of 2017. Joining NANB as Senior Advisor for Practice and Education, she was then promoted to Senior Advisor for Nursing Practice, Education, and Registration assuming the role of Deputy Registrar. Ms. Sheppard has been an integral part of NANB’s leadership team and brings a wealth of knowledge to the operations and strategic vision of NANB.

“Accepting this role is undoubtedly the highlight of my nursing career,” says Sheppard. “Navigating present challenges not only in regulation but in the nursing profession alongside a dedicated team including the staff and Board of Directors is inspiring. I am excited by what lies ahead and the accomplishments we will achieve together collaborating with external partners, anything is possible.”
