As part of Service New Brunswick’s (SNB) ongoing commitment to improving health data security and infrastructure, the Department of Health’s (DH) Health Portal will soon require a new way to access key clinical applications when using a non-GNB device. Please share these communications with your members for awareness.
When using a non-GNB device, clinical applications, such as the Provincial Electronic Health Record (EHR), regularly accessed by DH Health Portal users, will require the use of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to support new security measures.
What this means for DH Health Portal users:
To implement Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), a second factor authentication process will be required using a cellular device.
DH Health Portal users will require ready access to a cellular device to allow for two-factor authentication when accessing the DH Health Portal (i.e., Provincial Electronic Health Record (EHR) using a non-GNB device).
Additional Information:
1. Why must Multi-Factor Authentication be used to access the DH Health Portal?
- MFA is the best defense to protect against unauthorized access to patient and organizational data.
2. When will the changes take effect? - The new portal will be available on March 11, 2026.
- There will be a planned outage on March 10 (evening) to make the changes.
3. How will your impacted end users be supported through this transition?
- Subsequent communications regarding these changes will be provided to impacted end users directly by the SNB Service Desk.
- Users will be supported by the SNB Service Desk. SNB contact information will be provided to end users in future communications.
