NANB Welcomes Nurses Who Want to Call NB Their Work Host
NANB is excited to announce that in the coming weeks we will be introducing an expediated pathway to licensure for Canadian RNs and NPs seeking Interjurisdictional Nurse Licensure. This pathway comes in partnership with our regulatory counterparts across Canada.
This will open doors for nurses to work in multiple provinces while having a home jurisdiction and a host jurisdiction. A Home jurisdiction is the jurisdiction where you permanently reside, pay taxes or provide nursing services most often. Host jurisdiction is a jurisdiction where you provide nursing services temporarily or as an occasional provider i.e contract or term position.
Who requires an Interjurisdictional Nurse Licensure (INL)?
An INL applicant is an RN or NP who has active registration in a “home jurisdiction”, and is seeking licensure in New Brunswick, where New Brunswick is a “host jurisdiction”. The RN or NP resides and is registered in a Canadian jurisdiction outside of New Brunswick but provides nursing services in NB temporarily or occasionally.
What is the benefit of Interjurisdictional Nurse Licensure (INL)?
Quick licensure, reduction of duplicated requirements across Canadian regulators, and a reduced cost for registration. INL RNs and NPs will meet NANB’s Continuing Competency program (CCP) requirement by holding active registration in their home jurisdiction. Additionally, NANB will provide a 25% reduction on the annual fee when a nurse initially registers, renews or reinstates with NANB as their host jurisdiction.
In general, once NANB receives a completed application, nurses registered in another Canadian jurisdiction are registered within 2 business days. Canadian nurse applicants are required to provide government issued identification, a criminal record check, complete a jurisprudence exam, and pay the applicable fees.
Of note, NANB has the second lowest registration fees in Canada for RNs and NPs. This change means there are fewer barriers to nursing licensure in New Brunswick, through partnership with our Nurse Regulator counterparts across Canada.
