National Indigenous Peoples Day – June 21, 2025

June 20, 2025   ▪   NANB News & Announcements

On June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day, we come together to honour and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and enduring contributions of Indigenous Peoples across this land.

Aligned with the summer solstice, this day holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for many Indigenous communities. In New Brunswick, we recognize the vibrant presence of 16 Indigenous communities — including 6 Wolastoqiyik, 9 Mi’kmaq, and 1 Peskotomuhkati Nation — each with their own unique traditions, languages, and cultures. Did you know that Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik are the two distinct Indigenous languages spoken in the province?

As nurses, we hold a responsibility to learn, reflect, and act in ways that promote cultural safety in our practice. We invite you to engage with educational resources available on NANB’s website to deepen your understanding and commitment to culturally safe, respectful, and inclusive care.

Let us continue to walk together in truth, respect, and reconciliation, creating healthcare spaces that affirm the dignity and strength of all communities.
