Your Registration Fees

Did you know?

Quick facts about your NANB Registration fees:

  • NANB’s annual registration fee for RNs and NPs is $375.*
  • NANB fees are among the lowest annual registration fees for RNs and NPs in Canada, having third lowest in Canada and second lowest in Atlantic Canada.**
  • Registration fees for RNs across Canada vary from $988 to $354.
  • Registration fees for NPs across Canada vary from $1,156 to $354.
  •  NANB’s registration fees have not increased in 10 years. The last increase was in 2015.
  •  In 2022, fees were reduced by $20 when NANB ceased being a member of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), since this time individual nurses could choose to belong to CNA, or not.
  • All nurses are required to hold professional liability protection with the Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS) to practice nursing in New Brunswick. Starting this year, this will be paid directly to CNPS and not collected by NANB.

Your fees are used to fund the work of NANB in fulfilling its mandate to protect the public. Our core work includes:

  • Scope of practice and standards: We determine the scope of practice for RNs and NPs and set practice standards and entry-level competencies (ELC). To meet changes in the healthcare landscape, standards and ELCs must be reviewed and updated regularly.
  • Education program review and approval: We review all entry-to-practice nursing education programs in NB to ensure new graduates, re-entry candidates, and bridging candidates can practice safely, competently, and ethically and that the programs are meeting with Standards for Nursing Education.
  • Registration: We establish registration requirements to become a nurse in NB and assess all applicants to determine if they meet those requirements.
  • Continued competence: We maintain an annual continuing competence program that promotes continued competence throughout the career of a nurse.
  • Investigating complaints: We investigate and take action to resolve complaints related to a nurses’ practice.
  • Special projects and initiatives: We are involved in several projects and initiatives that relate to our Strategic Plan and other nursing matters.
  • Official languages: We complete all of our public facing work in both official languages.
